AN ENGLISH GARDEN

  • Natural factors: This garden is sloped down from the street, but of a flat terrain at the front.

  • Cultural factors: Circulation into the main garden is oriented downwards. The ranch-style is seen from the street level. There are deer that come down from the slope and canyon areas.

  • Aesthetic factors: Views into the garden is oriented in 180 degrees, thus the saving of existing trees is highly considered.

  • Synthesis: The creation of a curve path leading to the front door is the focal point. The wood arbor is to accompany the side of the house and give a small sitting area off the path. The use of used bricks for the steps and columns are compatible to the house and create a feeling of English garden.

  • Summary: I hope to revive a feeling of country-feel through the use of brick and cobblestones. The columns along the property are in scale with the house, they are low and friendly. The use of boxwoods, wisterias, hydrangeas and primroses are part of the English garden vocabulary.
